Sylvie Fréchette

On a visit to Niger in December 2007, Sylvie Frechette was able to appreciate what it means to have no safe drinking water.

Sylvie Frechette has been an Oxfam-Québec ambassador since 2006. This synchronized swimming champion is a passionate woman, and especially so when it comes to safe drinking water.

Sylvie Frechette collects medals. She won gold at the Commonwealth Games in 1986, the world championship in 1991, Olympic gold in 1992 and, four years later, the team silver medal.

Sylvie then took on a new challenge, with the Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas, as performer, choreographer and coach for the “O” show.

Today she is on the speaking circuit, and she is also deeply engaged with Oxfam-Québec.

"I'm a dreamer, I have always pushed my limits. Ever since I took my first steps, I knew there was always room for improvement. It's fine to be a public personality and talk to the media, but being human is important too, with my daughters at school.... I will finally be satisfied one day when there is universal access to drinking water, food and public services."
