History of Oxfam-Québec in the country:

Oxfam-Québec has been working in the Middle East since 1989. Its first project involved working with Palestinian refugees.

Oxfam-Québec is an international organization recognized in the region for its role with women’s groups and networks of NGOs interested in promoting democratic debate on the role of civil society.

Until 1995, Oxfam-Québec’s regional office in Cairo, Egypt, was responsible for managing programs in Palestine.

Owing to political changes, the expansion of the program in Palestine and limited prospects for developing the program in Egypt, Oxfam-Québec moved the office from Cairo to Jerusalem in early 1996.

From 1997 to 1998, Oxfam-Québec chaired the Association of International Development Agencies (AIDA), which works to foster development in Palestine.

Today, Oxfam-Québec is carrying out sustainable development activities in the West Bank to reduce the vulnerability of the population, particularly with respect to women.
