Marche 2/3 -- May 15, 2009: Youth rally in the heart of Montréal
On Friday, May 15, 2009, more than 15,000 youngsters will take the streets of Montréal in the name of international solidarity. They will be there because they want to build a fairer and more caring world. They will come from all corners of Québec to demonstrate their commitment and their determination to change the world they live in. They will be taking part in the biggest youth rally in North America, an annual event that was held for the first time in 1970 and is organized by CLUB 2/3, the youth division of Oxfam-Québec.
The slogan for the 39th Marche 2/3 Walk is: Ça chauffe sur la planète, BOUGE ! (“Global warming: walk the talk!”)
What? 39th Marche 2/3
Who? More than 15,000 secondary school students from all parts of Québec
When? Friday, May 15. Assemble at 9 AM; walk starts at 1015; finishes after noon
Where? The walk starts and ends at Lafontaine Park
Note: streets and bike paths will be closed all along the route (details available)
The Marche 2/3 will be preceded by the traditional "Solidarity Breakfast", hosted this year by Laure Waridel, the sponsoring patron for the event.
Mrs. Waridel will then give the sendoff, accompanied by the entertainers Charli Arcouette-Martineau, Roxane Bourdages, Mirianne Brûlé, Laurence Dauphinais, Éric Paulhus and Jason Roy-Léveillé, official spokespersons for the event.
