Vocational Training and Economic Integration
This project aims at improving the employability of young adults from Liancourt, in the Artibonite district of Haiti. This project is dedicated to young adults facing the greatest hardships, such as school dropout, an underprivileged background or various situations resulting from the earthquake (traumas, wounds, death of family members, ...).
The vocational training they will attend thanks to this project will enable these young adults to get a well-paying job, to meet the needs of their family, and to contribute to the economic development of their region.
The school offers several training courses, in woodwork, sewing, auto mechanics, cooking and computer science. The project provides school supplies and equipment to the students and it supports the teachers as well, through training in teaching methods.
Association des Parents et des Professeurs d’École de Liancourt (APPEL)
APPEL is a non profit organization created in 2000. Its members are mainly pupils’ parents and teachers who want to pro-actively improve the quality of teachings in their community.
Sommaire du projet
- Education and vocational training
- Youth empowerment
- Economic justice
- Gender justice
- Young adults (18-35 years old) who are school dropouts and come from underprivileged backgrounds
- Young adults from families affected by the earthquake and who have now returned to their village
- Teachers
The lack of school materials and equipments results in the teaching focusing on theory. Both practical trainings and individual follow up of each student are missing. In addition the temperature is extremely high inside the classrooms which makes concentration and learning more difficult. Therefore, the students are not motivated, and we can see repeated absences and early dropouts.
That’s why providing these young adults with the needed materials and equipments, qualified teachers and a study-friendly atmosphere thanks to an improved ventilation of the existing buildings is a crucial support to their learning process.
- To improve youth employability through vocational training
- To improve the quality of vocational trainings, through the
implementation of practical trainings (workwood, sewing, craftmanship,
auto mechanics, cooking, computer science), and the providing of
adequate school materials and equipements - To strenghten the knowledge and competences of the teachers
through trainings on teaching methods, trainings on adult teachings and
exchanges of experiences
