Equita has a single goal: Sustainable and democratic development. Created in 1997 as a subsidiary of Oxfam-Québec, the organization’s mission is: “To assume a leadership role in developing fair trade in Quebec in order to foster solidarity between the Quebec population and small producers in the South who are struggling within a global trade system based on their exploitation.”

Oxfam-Québec Fair Trade Inc. fulfills its mission by working in fair trade and carrying out awareness activities in Quebec. Only fair trade can ensure sustainable development, in other words, development that is economic, community-based and environmentally sound.
