Unwrapped, How it works

Are you tired of giving ties and bath salts as presents? We know how hard it is to choose gifts that make a difference. That's why we've developed Oxfam Unwrapped. It's a unique collection of gifts you can give to friends or family. Each present will help young people, women and men in developing countries improve their living conditions, ensure their rights are respected, and become actively involved in the future of their communities.

Your friends will receive an e-card explaining the present you bought in their name. With this money, Oxfam-Québec will undertake development projects that benefit the people who need it most.

So have a look through our gifts and discover how this exciting concept works. Choose a gift that best suits your friend, relative or co-worker, and place your order online.

Where does the money go?

Unwrapping the whole process

Oxfam-Québec works in 25 developing countries, and this catalogue contains items that symbolize some of our activities. When you give a gift through Oxfam Unwrapped, your donation will be used to help young people, women and men in developing countries to improve their living conditions, ensure their rights are respected, and become actively involved in the future of their communities.

We are often asked, "What happens when I buy a donkey or a goat?" Well, rest assured, we won't actually try to wrap it up, ears and all, and ship it off to Africa! These virtual animals are in fact symbols of our various programs. Your donation will go towards funding Oxfam-Québec’s activities in our range of programs.

For example, when you buy a goat, you are supporting our health programs. You are potentially providing vaccinations, health care and much more.

If you choose our pair of young alpacas, you will be supporting our youth programs. This will ensure that the young people of the world are aware of the root causes of poverty and injustice, and are ready to play a role in their communities.

Water and proper sanitation save lives and help people escape poverty. When you give a thirsty camel, you are supporting our projects targeting access to water and sanitation — public services that are recognized as basic human rights by the United Nations.

Helping people to raise their voices is a key part of our activities. Our advocacy work focuses on changing policies and practices, locally and globally, that perpetuate the cycle of poverty in the world. If you choose to give our mouse, you will help raise voices in developing countries.

Every gift offered through Oxfam Unwrapped represents the kind of work we do in communities where we are present. What we deliver and the projects we undertake are determined by community needs. As a result, it is possible that we could end up with more money in a particular sector than we can reasonably and responsibly program. If this is the case, Oxfam-Québec will ensure the funds are used to support our overall work within the same or a similar program area.

Because you're helping Oxfam-Québec fight poverty, your purchases are also tax deductible. Once you've purchased your gift, you will receive a tax receipt by mail. Oxfam-Québec is able to issue a charitable tax receipt only in the name of the individual who made the donation/gift.
