CEASEFIRE NOW

Appeal for the suspension of all arms transfers to Israel.

ONE YEAR OF DESTRUCTION IN GAZA

Since the start of the conflict on October 7, 2023, over 41,000 Palestinians have been killed, 70% of them women and children, and over 96,000 injured.

90% of Gaza’s population has had to move within the country (1.9 million people). Some 17,000 children are unaccompanied, and over a million children need mental health and psychosocial support.

Millions of people are in urgent need of safety and vital assistance. Ongoing bombardments are preventing the distribution of any humanitarian aid to civilian populations, who are in a critical state, without drinking water and on the brink of starvation.

For a real ceasefire, let’s call for the suspension of arms transfers to Israel

Protect Palestinian and Israeli civilians and humanitarian workers from bombs and fighting. Let’s avoid imminent famine. A ceasefire is the only way to guarantee the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza, to free all civilians who are being held, and to evacuate those in need of health care.

Canada has announced the suspension of new arms export permits to Israel. For this step in the right direction to have a real impact, all military exports, even those authorized before 2024, must cease.

In recent months, pressure from Canadians has helped to change the position of the Canadian government, which has come out in favor of an immediate humanitarian ceasefire. Let’s now demand that Canada go further to make a ceasefire a reality.

Testimony from Duaa and her family

Duaa Mansour, her husband and their three children sit in the garden of the house they were displaced to in Gaza.

Duaa looks her children photos before the war: “They’re so different now. Maram has lost 5 kilograms [11 pounds]. Meera has lost 3 kilograms [6 pounds].”

Canadian humanitarian agencies call for action

On June 19, 2024 in Ottawa, as Parliament recessed for the summer, Canada’s leading humanitarian agencies held a press conference on Parliament Hill to urge the Government of Canada to take immediate and decisive action to advocate an end to the war in Gaza and prevent further mass atrocities.

The situation in Gaza is alarming.

Bombardments in densely populated areas throughout Gaza have resulted in the deaths of over 41,000 people, 70% of them women and children, and disastrous humanitarian consequences for civilians with nowhere to flee.

90% of Gaza’s population has had to move within the country (1.9 million people). Some 17,000 children are unaccompanied, and over a million children need mental health and psychosocial support.

Access to water, food, fuel, medical supplies and healthcare is still extremely difficult and restricted. Most people are no longer able to feed themselves and their families. Without a real and immediate ceasefire and the entry of humanitarian aid commensurate with the crying needs of the civilian population, Gaza risks being pushed towards famine.

Under the International Court of Justice’s ruling on provisional measures, Canada must suspend arms exports to Israel, directly or indirectly, IMMEDIATELY.
