Oxfam-Québec is a nonprofit, secular, nonpartisan organization that promotes international cooperation and solidarity.

It was founded in 1973.

Oxfam-Québec is a member of Oxfam International (OI), a worldwide organization grouping 13 affiliates that are active in more than 125 countries. We are working together to do away with the sources of injustice and the causes of poverty.

Being a member of OI gives us more leverage. We coordinate our activities and we share our experience and our expertise. In this way, we can have a greater impact on people's lives in the South.

Our Mission

Oxfam-Québec is dedicated to supporting its partners and colleagues in developing countries in the design and implementation of sustainable solutions to poverty and injustice. It also rallies the people of Québec to demonstrate their solidarity.

Our Beliefs

We believe that:

• every human life is of equal value and every person has the same rights;
• in a world of plentiful resources, poverty can be eliminated;
• poverty leaves people more vulnerable to conflicts and natural disasters;
• glaring inequalities make people prey to poverty and injustice;
• to eliminate poverty and injustice, we have to change ideas, beliefs, policies and practices;
• solidarity among the globe’s inhabitants can lead to a fairer and safer world;
• young people represent a powerful force for change and for building a just world without poverty.

What does Oxfam-Québec do?

Oxfam-Québec is active in three areas:

• International cooperation and sustainable development projects:
  Through our nine offices, located in four regions of the world (Africa, Latin America, Asia and the Middle East), we offer international cooperation and sustainable development programs to support the poor and to help eliminate the causes of poverty.
• Awareness campaigns in Québec
  In coordination with Oxfam International, Oxfam-Québec mounts campaigns to bring about lasting change in world policies so as to eliminate the causes of poverty.
  Humanitarian emergencies
  Oxfam-Québec responds promptly to humanitarian crises. We provide support and protection for victims of conflicts and natural disasters. Our actions save lives.

All our cooperation projects and awareness activities are based on the five rights. All the members of the Oxfam family are committed to those rights.

Where does Oxfam-Québec work?

In developing countries:
In Africa, Latin America, Asia and the Middle East.

In Québec:
Through the schools – high schools, CEGEPs and universities.

With the general public: Montréal, Estrie (regional committee), Quebec City (regional committee).
